Mr. Snowflake

We all know the phrase "no two snowflakes are alike". This discovery was made by Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley (1865-1931).

Bentley attracted world attention with his pioneering work in the area of microphotography (taking pictures of itty-bitty things through a microscope), and most notably his work with snow crystals (commonly known as snowflakes). He was the first person to photograph a single snow crystal in 1885, and would go on to capture more than 5000 more during his lifetime. Every one was different.

His microphotographs were acquired by colleges and universities throughout the world and published in numerous magazines and journals, and he became affectionately known as "Snowflake" Bentley.
