Watch Those Horns!

Muskoxen roam wild throughout Arctic North America in herds of 10-20, and although they may look ferocious, they are mainly peaceful animals that eat only plants.

However, when attacked, they have been known to scoop up wolves with their horns, hurl them into the air and then stomp on them! This would not be a pleasant experience for the wolves, because the curved hooves of a muskox have sharp rims to give it a solid footing on icy slopes.

When they are threatened by wolves, muskoxen will form a circle around their young to protect them - with their horns facing outward. This is often enough to deter any wolf that has previously tangled with those horns.
