Norrland

Swedish Lapland, or Norrland, as the Swedes call it, is considered one of the last wilderness areas of Europe. Norrland covers roughly half the area of Sweden with a large portion of it north of the Arctic Circle. This wild, undisturbed land of the midnight sun is an area of high mountains and plateaus, forests, swamplands, crystal-blue lakes and glaciers.

Swedish Lapland has been occupied by the Samis since prehistoric times, and today Sweden has an Sami population of about 17,000. Sweden's Sami Parliament recognizes the Sami as an indigenous people group, and promotes their identity, togetherness, and social and political issues.

Sweden represents one of eight countries with a portion of its territory within the Arctic Circle. Do you know the others? Play the GAME!
